Are you a keen soccer player and look forward to your training or match? Do you feel full of energy some days and tired and lethargic others? Have you ever thought that this might be caused by your diet?

Mr. Gerhard Zallinger (athletic coach of Austria Vienna and Panathinaikos Athen) has compiled a list of top tips so that you feel full of energy before you start training. Try it out you will be amazed!



  • When you are thirsty just have a sip or a glass of water. You could also have a diluted apple juice. After your training or match try some more apple juice, ideally diluted with still mineral water. Sportsmen only drink cola in adverts!

  • Eat pasta, meat (beef or turkey) or fish with vegetables as the best combination for your MAIN MEAL. If you are still hungry you can always top-up with fruit. 

  • A banana or a wholemeal roll an hour before the game will give you enough strength and energy for your next WIN. 

  • Sugar and sweets are no good for anyone, especially for the young sportsman. 

  • FAST Food makes you SLOW.
